Oscars 2013

Oscars Review 2013:
Missed the oscars? Dying to find out what happened? Who won? Who hosted? Who performed?
Brittany's personal overview of the Oscars:
As always, the Red Carpet opened up the night. The speakers interviewed different stars about their outfit choices for tonight. Stars like Halle Barry got her dress specifically designed to look like a "Bond Dress" as she acted in Skyfall that came out earlier this year.
Six faces I did not recognize appeared on my TV screen. A contest was held for college film students who made a video proving how they could be the future of film. It was college students across the United States. I noticed that one girl was from Emerson College in Boston.  (It was just a coincidence how someone so close to where I live was chosen!).
The Red Carpet was ending and stars and their guests were going to their seats. The host was Seth Macfarlane, who is commonly known for being the creator of Family guy and other comical media. Before the awards were announced, the host talked for a bit, poking fun at some of the actors and movies. The Oscars 2013 is the first ever Oscar to have a theme, which was Music and Film. Responding to this theme, a broadway performance of Be our Guest from Beauty and the Beast was brought onto the stage.

Awards:
Actor in a Supporting Role: Christoph Waltz for Django Uncharted. This was his second nomination in the Oscars for the same category in his role Glorious and Bastards.
Animated Short Film: Paperman, John Kahrs
Best Animated Feature Film: Brave
Avengers was quoted as one of the most popular movies of this year.
Cinematography: Life of Pi
Visual Effects: Life of Pi
Makeup Design: Les Mis
Costume Design:Anna Karenina
The Oscars then announced that it was the Fifty Year Anniversary for James Bond films. Shirley Bassey, being about 76 years old, still did a fantastic job as she sang her heart out. Later, in the Oscars, Adele sings "Skyfall", which was the latest James Bond theme song. I definitely think it was more of a mellow version of the song, but still sung beautifully.
Best Live Action Short Film: Curfew, first nomination and first academy award for Shawn Christensen
Documentary Short Subject: Innocente
Best Documentary Feature: Searching for a Sugar Man
Best Foreign Language Film: Amour
The Oscars then had a tribute to musicals where three performances were held. They were Jennifer Hudson- You're gonna love me, Chicago- All that Jazz, and Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway performed a song from the film Les Mis.
After this, the Oscars were a bit entertaining. Mark Wahlberg and a green-screened version of Ted (from the film Ted) appeared to announce an award. It was comical and enjoying to see Ted come to life once again.
Best Sound Editing: It was actually a tie between Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall
Best Performance Actress in a Supporting Role: Anne Hathaway in Les Mis.
Achievement in Film Editing: Argo
Achievement and Production Design: Lincoln
After this award, the Oscars then did in "In Memory" to all people in the film industry who have died.
Best Original Score: Life of Pi
Best Screenplay: Argo
Best Original Screenplay: Django Unchained
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook. This was her second nomination in the Oscars. However, the filmBeasts of the Southern Wild was also nominated for this category for an actress only nine years old. This was the youngest oscar nomination ever.
Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln
Then, Michelle Obama was broadcasted on a big screen to present the biggest award of the night, "Best Picture". It was extravagant to see the scenery behind her; it looked very elegant. The winner of the best picture was given to Argo.
Best Picture was the last award for the night. I was happy for most of the results. I got to see some of my favorite movies like Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall win an Oscar. Thank you to the Academy for another great year of the Oscars!
